Fern Foray is coming to Kohler-Andrae State Park on Thursday, July 30, 2026, with a 1–2 mile fern-focused hike scheduled for 6:00–7:30 p.m. Naturalist-led and designed for an easy evening outing, it’s a great way for families and local nature lovers to learn what to look for along the trails.
Where to meet inside the park (important for arriving families)
The group meets at the Black River Trails parking lot (P1) at Kohler-Andrae State Park. That meeting point is inside the park—so plan to enter using the park directions and then park at P1 for check-in.
What to expect
The hike will be led by Wisconsin DNR naturalist Phyllis McKenzie. Expect a 1–2 mile walk and an on-trail focus on ferns and other features you can spot during a guided stroll along the Black River Trails.

Bathrooms and water: plan ahead
There are no bathrooms or water available at the Black River Trails parking lot (P1) meeting location. Vault toilets are available at the North Beach parking lot.

A Vehicle Admission pass is required for entry. The pass can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.
