Families planning Lake Michigan beach time should take note of an active National Weather Service (NWS) Beach Hazards Statement for Sheboygan County shoreline conditions.

When the statement is in effect

NWS says the Beach Hazards Statement runs from Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 12:00 AM CDT through Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM CDT.

What to expect (NWS hazards)

  • Life-threatening waves of 4 to 6 feet and dangerous currents.
  • Dangerous swimming conditions due to high waves and onshore winds.
  • Rip currents are possible, along with strong structural and longshore currents that can pull swimmers unexpectedly.

What to do during the statement

  • Stay out of the water during the statement window.
  • Stay away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls.
  • Keep kids and pets off the shoreline when hazards are posted.
  • If you’re at the lake, follow lifeguard and posted beach/venue instructions.
