WIS 28 Closure Continues Between Lyndon and Kohler During Bridge Work

WIS 28 remains closed between WIS 57 and County N as bridge replacement work continues in Sheboygan County during WisDOT’s construction update period covering August 10–21, 2026.
The closure affects travel through the Town of Lyndon, Town of Sheboygan, and Village of Kohler. Drivers using WIS 28 between those areas should follow the signed detour using WIS 57 and County U.
Bridge work remains active
Crews are continuing work on the WIS 28 bridge over a tributary of the Onion River. WisDOT lists parapet-wall construction, structural approach-slab work, and the scheduled start or continuation of concrete pavement approach slabs among the active tasks.
The broader project runs about 8.9 miles from WIS 57 in the Town of Lyndon to County A in the Town of Sheboygan and Village of Kohler. Work began July 6, 2026, and is expected to continue through late October, although construction schedules are subject to change.
What drivers should do
WIS 28 is not available for through travel between WIS 57 and County N. Allow extra time, follow posted detour signs, and check the 511 Wisconsin traffic map before leaving for the latest route conditions.
Residents, employees, farm operators, visitors, and local businesses along the route should avoid relying on older navigation directions if they point toward the closed section.
