Town of Mitchell, Weekly News Brief (Sheboygan County Focus)
Local government
Sheboygan County Board (Feb. 17) posted an agenda packet for its Tuesday evening meeting at the Courthouse. Items on the agenda included a memorial resolution honoring former County Board Chairperson Mike Vandersteen, a resolution to carry over unexpended 2025 appropriations into 2026, and Finance Committee items that included purchase of about 1.014 acres from St. Clement’s Congregation. The packet also listed a proposal to authorize outside counsel on a contingency-fee basis for potential litigation tied to fluorosurfactant contamination in Sheboygan County, plus a resolution introduced to set parameters for selling up to $14.8 million in general obligation promissory notes.
Transportation & road funding topics
Sheboygan County Transportation Committee (Feb. 16) posted an agenda and combined materials for its Monday morning meeting at the County Highway/Transportation offices in Plymouth. On the agenda: discussion of a resolution requesting sustainable transportation funding; consideration of changes to the county’s Rural Functional Classification System; and consideration of awarding a Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) project for County Road OO. While this is a countywide committee, its actions can affect how road projects and classifications are prioritized across Sheboygan County, including routes Town of Mitchell residents use for work, school, and services.
Schools
Plymouth School District posted calendar updates showing Feb. 20 as a no-school day, along with a Feb. 20 home boys basketball night (Kewaskum) and a Feb. 20 evening performance with Wisconsin Singers and Momentum. For Town of Mitchell families in the Plymouth School District, these are the kinds of schedule notes worth double-checking before making end-of-week plans.
Public safety
A Thursday morning house fire in the Village of Waldo drew a large mutual-aid response from across Sheboygan County. According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office (as reported by WBAY), the fire started in a garage on Mulberry Drive and began to spread to the home; no one was inside, and the cause remained under investigation. Agencies assisting included Cascade Fire and First Responders, Plymouth Fire Department, Oostburg, Random Lake, Sheboygan Falls, and multiple other departments—an example of how departments across the county back each other up during major incidents.
