NWS Expects Overnight Small-Craft Advisory for Sheboygan Waters Oct. 16-17
The National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued at 8:45 a.m. CDT Friday, Oct. 16, that a Small Craft Advisory will be needed after the Gale Warning expires, as gusty winds and elevated waves continue into the overnight hours.
The Gale Warning for Lake Michigan nearshore waters from Sheboygan to Port Washington remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT Friday, Oct. 16, according to an NWS marine alert issued at 8:53 a.m. The advisory was expected in the outlook; it was not confirmed as issued in the marine alert checked at 12:15 p.m. CDT.
What Lake Michigan mariners should know
This update applies to Lake Michigan mariners, not Sheboygan County residents on land. The outlook covers nearshore waters from Sheboygan to Winthrop Harbor, including the Sheboygan-to-Port Washington zone. Mariners should check current NWS marine alerts before departing because the follow-on advisory’s issuance or timing may change.
