Small Craft Advisory Covers Lake Michigan Near Sheboygan Oct. 6–7
Updated Monday, October 5, 2026
A Small Craft Advisory will cover Lake Michigan nearshore waters from Sturgeon Bay to Sheboygan from 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, through 7 a.m. Wednesday, October 7. The National Weather Service Green Bay office issued the advisory at 2:49 p.m. Monday. The alert includes the Two Rivers-to-Sheboygan nearshore zone.
Forecasters expect south winds of 15 to 25 knots, gusts up to 30 knots and waves of 6 to 10 feet. The NWS says strong winds can create hazardous waves, reduce visibility, and capsize or damage vessels. The Gale Watch previously in place for this nearshore zone was canceled.
A separate Gale Warning covers open waters
The NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan office lists a Gale Warning for northern open waters of Lake Michigan, north of a line from Port Washington, Wisconsin, to Whitehall, Michigan. It runs from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday and covers waters at least 5 nautical miles offshore to mid-lake, including offshore zones near Sheboygan. Forecast conditions are southwest winds of 20 to 30 knots, gusts up to 40 knots and waves of 7 to 12 feet.
The Gale Warning applies to a different marine zone and does not replace the nearshore advisory. Mariners planning to travel in affected waters should check the latest NWS alert for their exact zone before departure. The NWS advises inexperienced mariners, especially small-vessel operators, to avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
