Waldo Roundup: Garage Fire Response, Hwy 28 Project Awarded
It was a busy stretch for Waldo and the surrounding area, with a major fire response, new highway construction plans, and spring election preparations all affecting local residents.
Garage Fire Draws Countywide Response
More than a dozen fire departments responded to a house fire on Mulberry Drive in the Village of Waldo on February 19.
According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, multiple 911 calls came in around 11:30 a.m. reporting a garage fully engulfed in flames, with fire spreading toward the home. Authorities confirmed no one was inside the residence at the time. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
Departments from across Sheboygan County assisted, underscoring the level of mutual aid support available to small communities like Waldo.
Village Board Meets March 9
The Waldo Village Board and Utility Board held regular meetings on Monday, March 9 at Village Hall.
As of this week, agendas and approved minutes have not yet been posted. Residents who want to stay informed on village decisions, utilities, or upcoming projects can monitor the Agendas & Minutes section of the Village website. Meetings are typically held at 6:00 p.m. at Village Hall, 810 W. Second St.
Highway 28 Project Moves Forward
A major state highway project affecting Waldo is moving ahead after the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s February 10 bid letting.
The Waldo–Sheboygan Falls project along STH 28, including work near the Onion River tributary and the STH 57 corridor, was awarded to Northeast Asphalt, Inc., with a contract totaling just over $5.29 million.
While specific construction timelines for 2026 have not yet been announced publicly, drivers should expect activity along the STH 28 corridor during the upcoming road construction season. This route is a key connection between Waldo and neighboring communities, so future lane closures or detours could affect commutes.
County Fire Activity Continues
Elsewhere in Sheboygan County, a February 28 barn fire in the Town of Mosel resulted in a total loss of the structure and equipment inside. No injuries were reported.
While not in Waldo itself, these recent incidents highlight the continued strain on area fire departments and the importance of coordinated countywide emergency response.
Spring Election: April 7
Wisconsin’s Spring General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Local races across the state typically include school board and municipal positions, along with any statewide or judicial contests on the ballot.
Waldo residents should watch for absentee voting details and polling location information from village officials in the coming weeks. With less than a month to go, now is a good time to confirm voter registration status and review what will be on the ballot.
