Beach plans along Lake Michigan may need to change Tuesday, September 8, as the National Weather Service forecasts a high swim risk and waves reaching 5 to 7 feet at Deland Park Beach in the City of Sheboygan and Kohler-Andrae State Park beaches in the Town of Wilson.
Beach conditions are expected to worsen by Tuesday
The NWS Surf Zone Forecast issued at 3:22 a.m. CDT on Sunday, September 6, lists a low swim risk and 1- to 2-foot waves for Sunday and Labor Day. Conditions are forecast to rise to moderate risk Monday night before reaching high risk Tuesday.
The Tuesday forecast also calls for partly sunny conditions, south winds near 15 mph and a slight chance of showers. The NWS Sheboygan point forecast, updated at 5:36 a.m. CDT on September 6, includes south winds of 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts.
What beachgoers should do
People planning to swim should reconsider those plans for Tuesday. The National Weather Service advises staying out of the water during high swim-risk conditions and keeping away from piers and breakwalls, where waves and currents can become especially dangerous.
