Waldo Roundup: Water Tower Work, County Road J Closure
It has been a steady week for Waldo-area residents, with ongoing infrastructure work, spring construction impacts, and recent public safety updates across Sheboygan County.
Water Tower Work May Affect Pressure
Work on Verizon antennas located on the Village of Waldo water tower began April 13 and is expected to last about three weeks. During this time, residents may notice fluctuations in water pressure or occasional cloudy or rusty-looking water.
Village officials said these changes are normal during tower maintenance and should be temporary as crews complete the antenna upgrades. The notice was posted April 13 and the project is expected to wrap up in early May.
County Road J Closed for 2026 Construction Season
Sheboygan County has begun major reconstruction work on County Road J between State Highway 57 and State Highway 67. The road officially closed to through traffic on April 20 and is expected to remain closed until late November.
Drivers are being directed to follow posted detours. The extended closure may impact commuters traveling between Waldo and surrounding communities, especially toward Plymouth and Elkhart Lake.
I-43 Restrictions in Sheboygan County
In addition to county road work, WisDOT has previewed resurfacing and lane restriction projects along I-43 in Sheboygan County during the 2026 construction season. Motorists should expect periodic lane and ramp restrictions through November.
State officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead and use 511 Wisconsin for up-to-date traffic information.
Village Governance Updates
The Village of Waldo Plan Commission held a public hearing on April 13 at Village Hall. Agendas and meeting materials were published through the village website for residents wishing to stay informed on zoning and development matters.
Also in mid-April, the Village Board approved resolutions recognizing longtime trustees for their service, marking a period of transition in local leadership following the April 7 spring election.
Fatal Crash in Sheboygan County
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the name of a person killed in an April 13 crash on I-43 and Garton Road in the Town of Mosel. Multiple county agencies assisted at the scene.
While the crash occurred outside Waldo, it serves as a reminder for residents traveling on county highways and interstates during the busy spring construction season.
Looking Ahead
With warmer weather returning after a cool start to May, road construction activity is expected to increase throughout Sheboygan County. Residents should allow extra travel time, especially when heading toward larger corridors such as I-43 or Highway 57.
Village officials continue to post updates, meeting notices, and infrastructure alerts on the Village of Waldo website.
