I-43 and WIS 23 Ramp Closures Add Northbound Detours in Sheboygan County
SHEBOYGAN COUNTY — August 24, 2026. A new closure phase at the northbound I-43/WIS 23 interchange is active following work that began Thursday, August 20, creating detours for drivers using several key interchange movements.
WisDOT says the closure phase is scheduled to last 35 days. Closed facilities include the northbound I-43 collector-distributor bridge over I-43, the eastbound WIS 23 off-ramp to northbound I-43, and the northbound I-43 off-ramp to westbound WIS 23.
Drivers should follow two primary detours
- Eastbound WIS 23 to northbound I-43: Use Taylor Drive, continue on WIS 23 westbound, and then enter northbound I-43.
- Northbound I-43 to westbound WIS 23: Use WIS 42, take I-43 southbound, and then follow WIS 23 westbound.
Drivers should allow extra time, watch work-zone signs, and expect changing traffic control through the interchange.
Additional ramp closures planned for August 27
WisDOT’s Northeast Region weekly construction update for August 17–28 lists several additional northbound I-43 ramp closures for Thursday night, August 27:
- Northbound I-43 off-ramp to WIS 28: 8 to 10 p.m.
- Northbound I-43 off-ramp to eastbound WIS 23: 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
- Northbound I-43 on-ramp from westbound WIS 23: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
- Northbound I-43 off-ramp to WIS 42: 2 to 6 a.m.
Additional nightly I-43 lane closures, work-zone delays, and weather-dependent schedule changes may continue. County Road PP bridge work is also expected to use one lane with temporary signals.
Project runs through November
The broader I-43 resurfacing and bridge project extends from Wilson/Lima Road in the town of Wilson to WIS 42 in the town of Sheboygan. WisDOT expects the overall project to continue through November 2026 and includes work in the city of Sheboygan, village of Kohler, town of Wilson, and town of Sheboygan.
