Glenbeulah Roundup: School Project Moves Ahead, County Road Closures
It has been a busy stretch for Glenbeulah-area residents, with progress on a major school facilities project, multiple road construction updates, and statewide decisions that could affect local outdoor recreation.
Middle School Project Part of $39.6M Plan
The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District continues planning work tied to its $39.6 million capital referendum approved in late 2024. The project includes building a new middle school addition onto the existing high school facility and addressing long-standing infrastructure needs such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical upgrades.
District leaders have said the goal is to modernize learning spaces and eliminate the need for students to walk between separate buildings for certain classes. The district is currently debt-free, allowing it to move forward with long-term facility improvements. Glenbeulah families with students in grades 5–8 will be directly impacted once construction timelines are finalized and work begins.
County Road J Closed for 2026 Construction Season
Sheboygan County’s Highway Department reports that County Road J, from State Highway 57 to State Highway 67, is closed as part of a full reconstruction project. The closure began April 20, 2026, and is expected to remain in place through November.
Drivers in and around Glenbeulah should follow posted detours and allow extra travel time, especially for farm equipment, school traffic, and commuters heading toward Plymouth or Elkhart Lake. Additional county roads listed for 2026 work include segments of County Roads OO, Q, MM, and U, which may also affect regional traffic patterns.
I-43 Work Continues in Sheboygan County
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is continuing resurfacing and structure work on I-43 in Sheboygan County. Crews are working between Highway 42 and County Road V, with outside lane closures in both northbound and southbound directions.
While Glenbeulah is west of the interstate corridor, residents traveling to Sheboygan for work, shopping, or medical appointments should expect potential slowdowns. Motorists are encouraged to check 511WI before traveling.
DNR Stocking Cuts Could Affect Area Anglers
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced significant reductions in fish stocking, including a 70 percent cut in musky stocking statewide due to budget constraints. Overall fish stocking totals are down compared to previous years.
For Glenbeulah residents who fish nearby lakes and waterways in Sheboygan County, the changes may influence future fishing seasons. The DNR has indicated that budget decisions at the state level are driving the reductions.
Village Board Meetings
The Glenbeulah Village Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall. Residents interested in road projects, ordinances, or local budget discussions can attend or review posted minutes for updates.
