1908: The Ford Motor Company revealed to the world the first factory-built Ford Model T which was completed and became affectionately known as the Tin Lizzie, the car that would go on to put this world on wheels and usher us into the automotive age. The success of the automotive world to follow would lead to the paving of roads, the building of businesses, and the formation of much of the modern society that we now all enjoy.
1960: USS Enterprise (CVN-65), formerly CVA(N)-65, is a decommissioned United States Navy aircraft carrier. She was the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to be launched by the United States and the eighth United States naval vessel to bear the name. Like her predecessor of World War II fame, she is nicknamed “Big E”. At 1,123 feet (342 m), she is the longest naval vessel ever built and the only ship of a class that was originally planned to have five other ships. Enterprise had a crew of some 4,600 service members.
1998: New $20.00 bills enter circulation to deter counterfeiters, the new anti-counterfeiting measures include the use of color-shifting ink and a watermark. The bill is also redesigned with the picture of the White House is changed to the north side view and a larger, off-center portrait of Jackson was used on the front.
2013: While more than 20 Muppets were donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History on Tuesday – honoring the late Jim Henson’s birthday – it was Miss Piggy who really made a splash.
