Mead Public Library’s April 2026 Family Events Bring STEAM Kits, Mead Con, Storytimes and More
SHEBOYGAN, WI – April 1, 2026 – Mead Public Library has a packed month ahead for local families, with hands-on learning, special events, storytimes, tween activities, early childhood programming and a growing lineup of spring fun leading into summer reading.
From new STEAM kits in the Children’s Library to the return of Mead Con, the April calendar offers plenty for Sheboygan-area parents, grandparents and caregivers to put on the schedule.
New STEAM Kits in the Children’s Library

One of the newest additions at Mead is a collection of in-house STEAM kits now available for use in the Children’s Library. Recommended for ages 8 and up, the kits can be checked out at the third-floor customer service desk for use inside the library.
The lineup includes a Spirograph and Spirograph Mandala Set, an Art-chitect 3D Home Model Building Kit, a Human Anatomy Model Kit, a Snap Circuits Green Energy Electronics Exploration Kit and an LED Light Tracing and Drawing Art Kit.
Special Family Events

April also includes several special events for families. On Wednesday, April 15 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Family Math Game Night: Topology will invite families to explore shapes, surfaces and the surprising properties of a Mobius strip. The event is geared toward grades K-4 and their adults and gives kids a fun, hands-on way to connect math to play.
Bookmark Design Challenge

Families can also take part in Mead’s Bookmark Design Challenge for the 2026 Summer Reading Program. Entry forms are available in the Children’s Library, and selected designs will be professionally printed and shared with the community throughout the summer. Submissions are due in the Children’s Library by May 1.
Countdown to Mead Con

Another major highlight this month is the countdown to Mead Con. A reading challenge runs from April 1 through April 30, giving participants chances to earn tickets by reading and completing con-themed activity badges. Those tickets can then be used for prize drawings, including $25 gift cards to The Bugle, The Game Board and WordHaven BookHouse.
Mead Con itself returns on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The seventh annual event, formerly known as Comic Con, will feature free swag, a cosplay contest, retro gaming, Halo LAN parties, a drop-in comic-making workshop, Werewolf game sessions with The GameBoard, mini painting with Warhammer Panda Painting, Pokemon card creation and more activities for all ages. Costumes are encouraged.
Programs for Tweens

Mead’s tween programming for ages 9 to 13 includes Tween Book to Art Club on Tuesday, April 7 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., where participants will create projects with the Sheboygan Collective while discussing The Wild Robot. The library also has additional tween offerings this month, including creative programs and movement-based activities that give young people more ways to connect through reading, art and hands-on learning.
Storytimes and Early Childhood Programs
For younger children and caregivers, Mead continues its popular weekly storytime lineup. Baby and Me Storytime is held Mondays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 to 11 a.m. for newborns to 24 months. Preschool Storytime takes place Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 to 11 a.m. for ages 2 to 4. Toddler Storytime is Thursdays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 to 11 a.m. for ages 18 months to 3 years. Wiggleworms is held Fridays at 10 a.m. for ages 2 to 5, with no sessions on April 3 or April 10.
One especially helpful program for parents of little ones is BYOB – Bring Your Own Baby, set for Tuesday, April 14 at 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in The Loft. Children ages 0 to 2 and their caregivers are invited to socialize and connect with early childhood specialists from Progressive Beginnings and the Family Resource Center.
The library also reminds families that all of its programs are free thanks to support from the Friends of Mead Public Library, the Mead Public Library Foundation, the Kohler Foundation and grants. Those planning to attend who need ADA accommodations are encouraged to email mead.as@meadpl.org at least a week in advance. Mead also notes that staff may take photographs and video at events for publicity purposes, and attendees can notify a staff member if they do not want to participate.
For families looking for affordable local things to do, Mead continues to be one of the best places in Sheboygan to find educational, creative and community-centered events for kids of all ages.
