Discovery Bird Walk at Kohler-Andrae Explores Fall Migration
Nature enthusiasts in Sheboygan County can enjoy a refreshing start to their Tuesday with a Discovery Bird Walk at Kohler-Andrae State Park. On Tuesday, September 23, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM, participants will meet at the park’s Visitor Center (1020 Beach Park Lane, Sheboygan) before setting out on a guided hike through the dunes and woodlands.
The walk will be led by volunteer naturalists Janet and Andy Raddatz, who bring a wealth of knowledge about local habitats and migratory patterns. September is peak migration season, making this an excellent time to spot a wide variety of species. Depending on conditions, birders may see songbirds, shorebirds, and waterfowl making their way along Lake Michigan.
The program is designed for all experience levels. Binoculars will be provided for those who don’t have their own, and the pace is casual, with plenty of stops to identify and observe wildlife. In addition to birds, participants will also learn about the unique ecosystems within Kohler-Andrae, from shifting sand dunes to coastal forests.
The walk is free to join, though a Wisconsin State Park admission sticker or daily vehicle pass is required for entry. Attendees should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Heavy rain will cancel the event.
For anyone interested in nature, birding, or simply enjoying a quiet morning outdoors, the Discovery Bird Walk at Kohler-Andrae is a rewarding way to connect with the natural beauty of Sheboygan County.
