Local Artists Host Benefit for Homeless Services

“Warming Up to Art” collects winter clothing and funds for food bank
SHEBOYGAN, WI — October 6, 2025 — In recognition of Homeless Awareness Month and National Youth Homelessness Awareness Month this November, four local artists are hosting “Warming Up to Art,” a special art show and sale on Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2nd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Open Spaces Gallery in the Westgate Center 3893 Enterprise Drive Sheboygan, WI.
The event serves a dual purpose: giving talented local artists exposure while collecting winter clothing for residents in need. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of warm clothes to benefit residents of the Transitional Housing Unit of H.O.M.E., Inc. in Sheboygan. Additionally, a percentage of all art sales will be donated to the Sheboygan County Food Bank.
“Warming Up to Art” features work by four accomplished Sheboygan County artists:
Rick Bruinooge, a lifelong Sheboygan resident and educator who holds an art degree from Calvin College and a master’s degree from the University of Louisville. His work has been recognized in the Four Counties John Michael Kohler Arts Center exhibition, and he is honored to have a piece in Ruth Kohler’s private collection.
Darryl Gumm, a lifelong Kohler resident and 1971 graduate of Layton School of Art (now MIAD), has worked as a photographer and digital imaging professional for decades. His work spans wedding photography, family portraits, aerial photography, and historical documentation.
Michael Huibregtse, also a Layton School of Art graduate who founded Huibregtse Photography after serving in the Army. His diverse portfolio includes everything from wedding photography to architectural work. He spent 20 years at Kohler Company photographing products and properties worldwide before retiring in 2020.
Libby Olbrantz has gained international recognition and had her work featured in hotels around the world through Daylighted. She was featured in Kolaj Magazine and spoke at Kolaj Fest in New Orleans in 2018. From 2017 to 2019, she founded and ran the Bus Art Project MKE, collaborating with Milwaukee County Transit System to showcase local artists’ work on bus shelters.
The event will feature live music by Jon Doll throughout both days.
