Cascade Roundup: County Road J Closure, I-43 Work Continue
Road construction and seasonal travel impacts are the biggest issues facing Cascade-area residents this week, as multiple county and state projects remain underway heading into May.
County Road J Closed Through November
Sheboygan County’s Highway Department confirms that County Road J, between State Highway 57 and State Highway 67, is fully closed for reconstruction. The closure began April 20 and is expected to last through late November 2026.
Drivers in and around Cascade who rely on County Road J for north-south travel should continue to follow posted detours and allow extra time, especially for farm equipment, school transportation, and commuter traffic moving toward Plymouth or Random Lake.
The county also lists active or upcoming work on several other county highways, including County Roads C, TT, MM, and Y. While not all are directly in Cascade, regional traffic patterns may shift as drivers reroute around construction zones.
I-43 Resurfacing Impacts Regional Travel
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s I-43 resurfacing and structure improvement project in Sheboygan County is ongoing. The $21 million project covers roughly 10 miles of interstate from Wilson/Lima Road in the Town of Wilson north to WIS 42 in the Town of Sheboygan.
Construction began March 2 and is scheduled to continue into late October 2026. Motorists traveling from Cascade toward Sheboygan for work, medical appointments, or shopping should expect periodic lane closures, ramp work, and reduced speeds.
State officials encourage drivers to check 511 Wisconsin for real-time updates before heading out, especially as weekend travel increases and weather conditions shift.
Construction Season Advisory
County officials note that additional 2026 construction updates are expected as projects move from planning into active work phases. Spring frost conditions and fluctuating temperatures can also affect road surfaces, so drivers should watch for temporary signage and uneven pavement in rural areas.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official county and WisDOT pages for detour maps and schedule changes.
County Board Schedule Reminder
The Sheboygan County Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the County Courthouse in Sheboygan. While no major Cascade-specific agenda items were highlighted this week, residents can review posted agendas and minutes online to track transportation, public safety, and budget discussions that affect the entire county.
With construction season ramping up and summer events approaching, staying informed on county decisions and road conditions will be especially important for Cascade households in the weeks ahead.
