Sheboygan County Gas & Diesel Watch: Regular Gas Keeps Climbing, Diesel Stays Above $5.20
Sheboygan County drivers are seeing another step up at the pump heading into the first weekend of May.
What changed at the pump
According to AAA’s fuel price report dated May 1, 2026, the Sheboygan metro average for regular unleaded is $4.290 per gallon. That’s up 6.9 cents from yesterday, up 46.9 cents from a week ago, up 45.9 cents from a month ago, and up $1.31 from a year ago.
Diesel moved even more sharply. AAA lists the Sheboygan metro diesel average at $5.229 per gallon as of May 1. That’s up 28.8 cents overnight, up 39.6 cents from last week, up 43.6 cents from a month ago, and roughly $2.01 higher than a year ago.
After hovering just under the $5 mark in our last Sheboygan Life fuel-price check, diesel is now firmly back above it — and well into the $5.20 range.
How Sheboygan compares
AAA’s national data for May 1 shows elevated averages across much of the country, reinforcing that this is not just a local spike but part of a broader fuel-cost climb. Even so, the impact is felt most directly at local stations from Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls to Plymouth and the surrounding towns.
What local drivers should watch
For Sheboygan County commuters, a move from the low $4.20s into the high $4.20s means filling a typical 15-gallon tank now costs roughly $64 before taxes and add-ons — several dollars more than just a week ago.
For diesel users, the jump above $5.20 hits harder. Contractors, landscapers, delivery drivers, farmers preparing fields, and trucking-dependent small businesses all feel the increase quickly. Higher diesel costs can ripple into everything from building bids and restaurant deliveries to grocery restocking and event logistics.
School transportation budgets, municipal fleets, and weekend travelers heading to youth sports, lakefront events, or out-of-county visits will also be watching closely. With frost in the forecast and scattered showers possible this weekend, more drivers may opt for quick car trips instead of longer outdoor stays — adding to near-term fuel demand.
The key question now is whether this is a short burst higher or the start of a sustained May climb. If the upward pace continues, both regular gas and diesel could test higher psychological price points in the coming days.
