Seasonal weight restrictions are now in play statewide
WisDOT ended Wisconsin’s frozen road declarations effective Feb. 20, 2026, which triggers Class II road restrictions for Zones 3-5 on susceptible state highways during spring thaw conditions. WisDOT also notes that county highways and town roads (including local roads maintained by the Town of Herman) may be posted or limited by local decisions as conditions change. If you haul, tow, or regularly move heavy equipment, watch for posted limits and plan alternate routes as restrictions go up or come down.
I-43 resurfacing work in Sheboygan County begins March 2
A major WisDOT resurfacing and structure project on I-43 in Sheboygan County is scheduled to begin March 2, 2026 with tree clearing and right-of-way fencing, followed by structure work in mid-March and longer-term lane closures. The project spans roughly 10 miles of I-43 and includes areas from the Town of Wilson up to WIS 42 in the Town of Sheboygan, passing through the City of Sheboygan and Village of Kohler. For Town of Herman residents commuting south for work, medical appointments, or shopping, expect changing traffic patterns and periodic ramp/bridge impacts as the season progresses.

Multi-agency response to a Sheboygan County house fire
Sheboygan County law enforcement and numerous area fire departments responded to a reported house fire on Mulberry Drive in the Village of Waldo on Feb. 19, 2026. Officials reported a garage fully involved, with fire beginning to spread to the home. No one was inside, and the cause was reported as under investigation. While this incident occurred outside the Town of Herman, it is a reminder of how mutual-aid fire response works across the county, especially during winter conditions when access, hydrants, and response times can be more challenging.
