Sheboygan’s Iconic Dave’s Who’s Inn Closes Amid License Dispute
SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. — Dave’s Who’s Inn, a long-standing bar in Sheboygan, has remained closed for the past three weeks after owner David Repinski decided to shut its doors at the end of June. The closure came in response to stipulations attached to the renewal of the bar’s liquor license, which Repinski and his lawyer, Richard Hahn, found to be unfair. The city imposed conditions that no underage persons be allowed on the premises and that a metal detector be used to screen all patrons, measures Repinski argues are unprecedented and detrimental to the family-friendly atmosphere he has cultivated over the years.
Established by Repinski’s father in 1974, Dave’s Who’s Inn has been a beloved community spot for half a century, currently located on 9th Street and Indiana Avenue. The new conditions have sparked significant concern among Repinski and his staff, including long-time bouncer and bartender Andrew Schuessler. Schuessler, who recently welcomed a new baby, is one of the many employees facing financial strain due to the bar’s closure. The stipulations, which were initially agreed upon in 2022 following a series of violations that have since been dismissed in court, are now being contested as they were unexpectedly reapplied despite a clean record in 2023.
As Repinski prepares to present his case at the upcoming Licensing Committee meeting, the future of Dave’s Who’s Inn remains uncertain. Employees like Coralie Kunstman express deep concern about their livelihoods, fearing the permanent loss of their workplace. With the doors locked and the neon signs off, the community waits in hope that this cherished establishment will once again welcome its loyal patrons.
