Lakeshore College launches new commercial truck driving program to meet workforce demand
CLEVELAND, Wis. — Lakeshore College has launched a new commercial truck driving program designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in the transportation and logistics industry. The in-person program provides students with the training needed to meet federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements and pursue a Commercial Driver License (CDL) in Wisconsin. By offering this program locally, students will no longer need to travel to Fond Du Lac, Milwaukee, Appleton, or Green Bay for commercial truck driving training.
The new program is offered in an eight-week traditional format and features four start dates each year, allowing students to quickly enter the workforce. Students will receive hands-on, behind-the-wheel training using industry-standard equipment while learning from instructors with extensive professional driving and teaching experience.
“Truck drivers play a critical role in keeping the economy moving, and the demand for qualified professionals continues to grow,” said Lakeshore College President Paul Carlsen. “This program provides students with practical skills, safety-focused instruction, and career-ready training that can lead to stable, well-paying employment opportunities.”
According to the college, the program is designed for individuals who enjoy hands-on learning, working with equipment, and pursuing careers that offer strong earning potential and job stability. Graduates may pursue local, regional, or over-the-road driving careers.
The Truck Driving program is a one-term technical diploma consisting of nine credits and is delivered entirely in person at the college’s Cleveland campus.
