The Shaw Family Playground is a unique and special place located within Evergreen Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. With its mission to provide a 100% accessible playground for all children, it offers a safe and fun environment for children of all abilities to play and interact with one another. The playground is a result of the efforts of the Shaw family, who have partnered with local organizations and community leaders to bring this dream to life.

The Shaw Family Playground is open during the following hours:

• Sunday: 4 AM to 10 PM
• Monday: 4 AM to 10 PM
• Tuesday: 4 AM to 10 PM
• Wednesday: 4 AM to 10 PM
• Thursday: 4 AM to 10 PM
• Friday: 4 AM to 10 PM
• Saturday: 4 AM to 10 PM

The playground offers state-of-the-art equipment for children to play with, including:

• Cozy Dome: a quiet and calming place for over-stimulated children
• Sway Fun: a glider for two wheelchair bound children to share with able-bodied friends
• Omni spinner: a spinning equipment accessible to children of all abilities
• Oodle swing: a large swing accommodating 4 to 6 children with transfer points for wheelchairs or walkers
• Multi-person seesaw: a 4-seated seesaw with backs and transfer points for wheelchairs or walkers
• Hand level play components: for hand-eye and fine motor skill development
• Raised sand tables and sand digger: for children in wheelchairs or walkers to play in the sand
• Roller table: for children of all abilities to experience the fun of a roller pin table
• Transfer platform slides: a triple high slide with multiple transfer stairs/platforms
• Musical components: for therapeutic and multi-sensory play
• Braille panels: for sensory interaction for those with little or no vision
• Accessible Zip line: for mobility-impaired children to race with their peers or family members

The playground is fully encircled by a picket-style fence for security, and its poured-in-place surface is the number one safety rated, fully accessible surface. The playground has double-wide ramps throughout the entire play structure, which allows for interaction and imaginative play between children of all abilities.

The Shaw family began their journey to fundraise for a playground after their birth of conjoined twins Mateo and McHale in 2006. With the help of the Friends of the Sheboygan Jaycees and support from the City of Sheboygan, the playground opened in 2018.

The playground cannot be rented and is open to the public. The City of Sheboygan provides in-kind labor for site preparation and a new restroom facility. The Friends of the Sheboygan Jaycees are managing the endowment fund to ensure the playground remains accessible and properly maintained.
