Town of Sheboygan, Weekly News Brief (Sheboygan County Focus)
I-43 Reconstruction Underway in Sheboygan County
Major road work affecting Town of Sheboygan residents officially began March 2 as the Wisconsin Department of Transportation launched a $21 million rehabilitation project on I-43. The work covers roughly 10 miles from Wilson/Lima Road northward and includes pavement replacement, structure maintenance, slope grading, and new signage.
Initial tree clearing and fencing are expected to have minimal traffic impact. However, longer-term lane closures are scheduled to begin in mid-March and continue into summer. More disruptive phases are planned for July and August, including bridge work at the I-43 and Highway 23 interchange. Intermittent closures are expected through fall, with completion anticipated around late October or early November, weather permitting.
Town residents who commute via I-43 should plan for delays and monitor state DOT updates as construction phases shift.
Sheboygan Area School District Updates
The Sheboygan Area School District announced March 3 that registration is now open for Summer School 2026. The program includes academic support, enrichment offerings, and additional learning opportunities for students across the district, which serves families in the Town of Sheboygan.
Looking ahead, the SASD Board of Education will hold its Committees and Full Board meeting on March 10 at 6:00 p.m. at 3330 Stahl Road in Sheboygan. Community members may attend to stay informed on district decisions and planning.
Spring Break is scheduled for March 20 through March 27, with no school for students during that period. Classes resume March 30, followed by a staff professional development day the same day.
Planning Ahead for Spring Travel and Schedules
With improving weather expected this weekend and into Monday, road crews will likely continue early-stage I-43 construction activities. Drivers should remain alert for changing lane configurations and work zones, particularly during weekday commutes.
Families are also encouraged to review school calendars and meeting schedules as spring events and district decisions move forward through March.
