Sheboygan Students Begin Building the District’s 29th Student-Designed House
Sheboygan, WI — September 16, 2026
North and South High School students have begun work on the Sheboygan Area School District’s 29th student-built home after a groundbreaking Tuesday, September 8, at Stonebrook Crossing on Sheboygan’s south side.
The 2026-2027 House Construction Project is located at lot 76 in Stonebrook Crossing in the City of Sheboygan. The project gives students practical experience in design, construction, project management and teamwork involved in building a home.
A student-selected design
The home will use a design created by Madeline Gilson, a North High School graduate, through the Project Lead the Way Civil Engineering and Architecture course. The district’s House Construction program uses student design work as part of the process for selecting each year’s project.
Students from both North and South high schools are participating in the current build. The work connects classroom learning with hands-on career preparation for students interested in construction, engineering, architecture, skilled trades and related fields.
A continuing Sheboygan program
Werner Homes is constructing its sixth student-built house in Stonebrook Crossing. Ted Schermetzler, the project’s instructor and project manager, is leading his 11th student home project for the district.
The House Construction program began in 1998 and has continued to provide a practical learning opportunity while supporting future students. According to the district, proceeds from home sales help fund student scholarships, equipment and future construction projects.
For families and residents, the project is another visible example of career and technical education taking place in the City of Sheboygan. It gives students experience with the responsibilities involved in a real construction project.
Readers can follow the district’s House Construction program for additional project information as the 2026-2027 home progresses.
