Sheboygan County Board Approves Capital Plan With 2027 Marsh Boardwalk Funding
Sheboygan County, WI — September 18, 2026.
The Sheboygan County Board approved the county’s 2026-2030 Five-Year Capital Plan on September 15, placing planned 2027 funding for the Sheboygan Marsh Boardwalk and Interurban Trail maintenance into the county’s capital program.
The plan lists a $1.3 million budget for the Sheboygan Marsh Boardwalk in 2027. That amount includes $1 million in anticipated reimbursement and $300,000 in proposed county bonding.
Interurban Trail maintenance also included
The capital plan separately assigns $150,000 for Interurban Trail maintenance in 2027. The trail allocation is distinct from the Marsh Boardwalk project and represents another planned investment in county infrastructure.
Federal community-project materials describe the Sheboygan County Educational Marsh Boardwalk as an approximately one-mile ADA-compliant wetland boardwalk and connecting bridge project. The county capital plan does not, by itself, establish a final construction schedule or public-opening date.
Broader 2027 capital plan
The 2027 capital plan identifies $15,972,654 in total projects, with $9,236,237 in anticipated reimbursements and $6,736,417 in proposed bonding, according to local reporting published September 16, 2026.
Other planned capital items include county facility upgrades, information-technology replacements, airport and highway work, Rocky Knoll projects and a future transitional housing facility.
What the approval means
Approval of the five-year plan means these projects are included in the county’s planned capital-spending roadmap. It does not, by itself, confirm that construction has started, that reimbursement has been awarded, or that the Marsh Boardwalk is ready for public use.
Residents can use the plan to track where county investment is scheduled in 2027. Later county updates will be needed for design work, reimbursement status, construction timing, project phases and public access details.
