Janesville voters approve voter control over major GM/JATCO projects
Janesville voters approved a requirement that major development at the former General Motors and Janesville Automotive Transport Company sites receive voter approval. The measure passed with 16,779 yes votes, or 62.82%, to 9,932 no votes, or 37.18%, in Rock County’s unofficial returns, with all 40 precincts reporting.
The measure gives city voters the decision on proposed development agreements, projects, sales and leases at the GM/JATCO sites when project costs exceed $450 million. It creates an approval requirement for those projects rather than a blanket prohibition on data centers.
