A National Weather Service Gale Warning is in effect until 10 p.m. CDT Sunday, October 18, for specified offshore Lake Michigan waters near Sheboygan. In an update issued at 4:44 a.m. CDT, NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan listed the waters from Sturgeon Bay to Two Rivers and Two Rivers to Sheboygan, five nautical miles offshore to mid-lake.
Boaters should reconsider offshore plans
The warning forecasts southwest winds of 20 to 30 knots, gusts up to 35 knots, and waves of 7 to 11 feet. NWS advises mariners to alter plans to avoid hazardous conditions. For severe conditions, the agency says to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course and/or secure the vessel.
This warning applies to offshore Lake Michigan waters, not inland Sheboygan County weather. It is separate from the nearshore Small Craft Advisories covered in Sheboygan Life’s October 17 report. Check current NWS marine alerts before departure because conditions and alerts can change.
