Sheboygan Data Center Speaker Series Begins Sept. 9
Sheboygan, WI — Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Sheboygan residents will have four opportunities to learn about data centers this September as the City of Sheboygan hosts a public speaker series focused on energy, water, infrastructure, policy and municipal finances.
The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Uptown Social, 1817 North 8th Street, Sheboygan. Residents, local stakeholders and alderpersons are encouraged to attend in person or participate virtually through WSCS and Teams.
Four Wednesday sessions planned
- Wednesday, Sept. 9: Becky Valcq, president of Wisconsin Energy Company and vice president of energy delivery for Alliant Energy.
- Wednesday, Sept. 16: Dr. Ben Green. The presentation is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with limited or no question-and-answer time noted by the city.
- Wednesday, Sept. 23: Bridget Williams of the Great Plains Institute.
- Wednesday, Sept. 30: Greg Johnson, senior municipal advisor with Ehlers.
The sessions generally include a 40- to 60-minute presentation followed by approximately 40 minutes of questions and answers, except where the city has noted a different format.
Learning before future zoning standards
The City of Sheboygan says the Common Council requested the series to build public and official understanding before possible future zoning standards are considered. Topics will include how data centers may relate to electricity demand, water use, infrastructure and municipal finances.
WHBL reported Aug. 24 that City Hall clarified the purpose of the engagement series and connected it with the council’s 12-month moratorium and broader work on potential policy needs.
There is no current data-center project proposed in the City of Sheboygan. The September meetings are intended to provide information before the city considers future rules, rather than announce a local construction plan or development application.
How to attend
People who want to attend the first session can plan for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Uptown Social, 1817 North 8th Street. Residents who cannot attend in person can use the virtual options provided through WSCS and Teams.
The city’s Data Centers Educational Speaker Series page includes session details, speaker information and virtual access links.
