NWS Milwaukee/Sullivan says no hazardous weather is expected during Wednesday’s Day One period (Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night). The key planning window starts late Wednesday, July 8 and continues into Thursday, July 9.

The Hazardous Weather Outlook says showers and thunderstorms are likely at times from late Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening. It also notes that some strong storms may bring gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall during that period.

NWS adds that spotter activation may be needed later Wednesday afternoon and evening—so conditions could become more active as the storm timing gets closer.

What families and commuters can do before Wednesday night

  • Secure outdoor items before Wednesday evening (patio furniture, loose bins, yard items that could blow in wind).
  • Have a lightning/storm plan ready for kids’ activities and after-work errands—where you’ll go quickly when thunder starts.
  • Be ready for delays: since thunderstorms can form around the region at different times, check for updated NWS warnings as Wednesday afternoon and evening approaches.

Storm safety reminder: when thunder starts, go indoors

The American Red Cross advises that when thunder roars, you should seek shelter inside a sturdy building, moving to a basement or interior room on the lowest floor, and stay away from glass windows and doors. Stay inside until local forecasts indicate it is safe to leave.
