Driftless Art Exhibition Opens in Sheboygan October 17
A free photography and art exhibition at Open Spaces Gallery in Sheboygan will bring views of Wisconsin’s Driftless region together with recent still lifes and mid-century mixed-media work. “Driftless” is open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, and Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 3893 Enterprise Drive.
Rich Maciejewski’s black-and-white photographs explore the bluffs, coulees and protected landscapes of southwestern Wisconsin, including the Lower Wisconsin Riverway. His series looks closely at the region’s less-developed places and their sense of mystery.
Maciejewski began photographing in Sheboygan County in the late 1970s, first with the Plymouth Review. He later spent more than 30 years as a photographer and photo supervisor for Kohler Co. He now lives and works in Madison, focusing on Wisconsin’s arts and natural environment.
Open Spaces Gallery owner Michael Huibregtse will show recent still lifes and other photographs. He was Kohler Co.’s lead photographer and photo manager from 1999 until recently, following a career as an advertising photographer in Milwaukee’s Third Ward.
The exhibition also includes mixed-media work by Georg Vihos (1937–2013), a mid-century modern artist whose honors included a Louis Comfort Tiffany Prize in 1968 and a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship in 1969–70. His work is held in public and private collections, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, The Broad Museum and the Dennos Museum Center.
Maciejewski and Huibregtse will be at the gallery on both dates to meet visitors and discuss their work. Vihos’ daughter, Lisa Vihos, will attend to speak about her father’s life and art.
