Town of Sherman, Weekly News Brief (Sheboygan County Focus)
I-43 Reconstruction Underway in Sheboygan County
Major road work that affects many Town of Sherman residents is now underway on Interstate 43 in Sheboygan County.
Construction began March 2 on a 10-mile stretch of I-43 from Wilson/Lima Road in the Town of Wilson to WIS 42 in the Town of Sheboygan. The project includes resurfacing and structural improvements and is expected to continue through late October 2026.
For Sherman residents who commute north toward Sheboygan or south toward Ozaukee and Milwaukee counties, this work may mean lane shifts, reduced speeds, and periodic ramp impacts over the coming months.
What to Expect
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and local reports, the $21 million project includes pavement rehabilitation and structure work along the corridor. Drivers should anticipate changing traffic patterns as construction progresses.
One of the most disruptive periods is expected later this summer, when collector-distributor ramps at the I-43 and Highway 23 interchange undergo extended bridge work. That phase is scheduled to last more than a month.
While Sherman itself is west of I-43, the interstate is a key route for work, school, medical appointments, and shopping trips into Sheboygan. Residents are encouraged to build in extra travel time and monitor weekly construction updates.
Staying Informed
WisDOT is posting ongoing updates through its 511 Wisconsin construction project page. The Northeast Region also provides weekly advisories outlining lane closures and major changes.
Motorists can check current conditions before traveling, especially during peak commuting hours or inclement weather. With spring approaching and temperatures fluctuating, drivers should remain alert for changing work zone configurations.
Looking Ahead
With the project slated to run through fall, Sherman residents who regularly rely on I-43 may want to explore alternate routes when feasible, including State Highway 57 for certain north-south trips within the county.
As construction season ramps up across Sheboygan County, additional local and county road projects are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
