Town of Mitchell, Weekly News Brief (Sheboygan County Focus)
Major I-43 Construction Underway in Sheboygan County
Drivers in and around the Town of Mitchell should prepare for extended road work as reconstruction of I-43 in Sheboygan County began March 2. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project includes pavement replacement, bridge maintenance, slope grading, and updated signage along a 10-mile stretch of interstate.
Initial work involves tree clearing and right-of-way preparation, with more significant lane closures expected later this month. Long-term lane reductions are anticipated through July, followed by intermittent closures into the fall. Particularly disruptive work is expected this summer at the I-43 and Highway 23 interchange, where bridge repairs will impact ramps for several weeks.
For Mitchell residents commuting toward Sheboygan, Kohler, or Manitowoc County, extra travel time and reduced speeds should be expected throughout the construction season.
Sheboygan Police Welcome New Officers
The Sheboygan Police Department swore in three new officers on March 2, strengthening law enforcement staffing in the county’s largest city. Officers Michael Moore, Michal Bigari, and McKenzie Vang officially joined the department during a ceremony attended by family and colleagues.
Several promotions were also announced within the department’s leadership ranks. While based in the City of Sheboygan, the department frequently coordinates with other agencies across Sheboygan County. Staffing updates are relevant countywide, particularly as communities prepare for increased spring travel and seasonal events.
Plymouth School District: Early March Events
Families in the Town of Mitchell who are part of the Plymouth Joint School District have several community activities this weekend and in the coming days.
On March 6, the district hosted free child development screenings at Generations. On March 7, Plymouth High School is holding a Saturday Family Swim from 1 to 3 p.m. in the PHS pool. The high school also recently hosted a WIAA regional boys basketball game.
These school-based events provide opportunities for family engagement and student participation as the district moves toward spring programming.
Looking Ahead
With warmer weather approaching, road construction and school activities are ramping up across Sheboygan County. Residents of the Town of Mitchell should monitor official transportation updates and school district communications for schedule changes, especially as major highway work expands later this month.
