Sheboygan, News Brief March 3, 2026
Local government
The Sheboygan Common Council met Monday, March 2. Items on the agenda included a proposed appointment of Hugo Cardenas Jr. as Director of Facilities (effective April 6), multiple resolutions tied to contracts and city operations, and redevelopment and infrastructure actions. Notable agenda items included proposed tax incremental district development agreements for Harbor View Lofts at 636 Wisconsin Avenue (two lots), a contract for South Business Drive concrete pavement repairs (Union Avenue to Indiana Avenue), and an authorization to submit an application to purchase the Sheboygan Breakwater Lighthouse. The agenda also included an annexation ordinance for a parcel identified by Tax Parcel ID 59024346880.
Road work & transportation
WisDOT’s I-43 resurfacing and structure work in Sheboygan County began March 2. The state says a $21 million contract will rehabilitate 10.4 miles of I-43 from Wilson/Lima Road (Town of Wilson) to WIS 42 (Town of Sheboygan), with reduced lanes in both directions at times and ramp closures during paving operations. Early work includes tree clearing and right-of-way fencing with minimal traffic impacts, followed by longer-term lane closures expected mid-March into July. Plan extra time if you commute between Sheboygan and the south end of the county via I-43.
Schools
The Sheboygan Area School District’s Board of Education lists upcoming meetings at the Administrative Services Building (3330 Stahl Road). The district notes that agendas are typically posted the Friday before a meeting date, and minutes are posted after approval.
Community events
Mead Public Library’s calendar shows multiple youth and family programs later this week, including storytimes and a kids play program (check listings for rooms and times before you go).
Public safety
The Sheboygan Police Department is accepting applications for its 30th annual Citizen Academy. SPD says the 2026 academy runs March 17 through May 26, with Tuesday-evening classes (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM). It’s designed as a behind-the-scenes look at local policing for community members.
