Sheboygan, News Brief February 20, 2026
Local government
Several City of Sheboygan meetings this week included items tied to redevelopment, zoning, senior programming, and Mead Public Library governance. One roundup highlighted a Redevelopment Authority request related to construction staging, a Zoning Board of Appeals variance request, and library board items such as policy and reporting topics. For residents tracking decisions that affect neighborhoods, parking, or redevelopment timelines, it is a good moment to skim agendas and keep an eye on follow-up actions at upcoming meetings.
Schools
The Sheboygan Area School District lists its next Board of Education regular meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 6:00 PM at the Administrative Services Building (3330 Stahl Road). The district also posts a meeting-agendas link from the board page, which is typically updated close to meeting dates.
Road work and travel
Seasonal weight restrictions begin
WisDOT ended frozen-road declarations statewide effective Feb. 20 at 12:01 AM, which also triggers Class II road restrictions for Zones 3-5 during the spring-thaw period. WisDOT notes that counties, towns, cities, and villages may also post or reduce weight limits on local roads based on conditions. If you drive or dispatch heavier vehicles, check posted limits and plan routes accordingly.
I-41 impacts noted this week
WisDOTs I-41 project site continues to list overnight lane and ramp impacts in the corridor, including a scheduled overnight closure noted for northbound I-41 between the Wisconsin Avenue and Richmond Street exits, plus related ramp closures. Traffic impacts can change, so it is worth double-checking before late-night trips.
Public safety
A house-and-garage fire response in the Village of Waldo drew mutual aid from more than a dozen departments in Sheboygan County on Feb. 19. The Sheboygan County Sheriffs Office reported multiple 911 calls, with responders finding a garage fully involved and fire starting to spread to the home. No one was inside, and the cause was reported as under investigation.
