Road work & travel

I-43 construction starts Monday, March 2. WisDOT says a $21 million project will rehabilitate about 10 miles of I-43 in Sheboygan County (from Wilson/Lima Road to WIS 42). Expect long-term lane closures beginning mid-March, plus intermittent ramp closures later in the year. For Cascade-area drivers, WisDOT notes future short ramp closures are planned at WIS 28 during paving operations (up to two consecutive days), along with other ramp and bridge impacts.

If you commute from Cascade toward Sheboygan/Kohler or connect to I-43 via WIS 28, it’s a good week to double-check routes and leave extra time once lane reductions begin.

Public safety & weather

Snow and slick travel expected today (Saturday). Local reporting indicates Sheboygan County could see snow beginning late morning, peaking around midday/early afternoon, with the potential for 2–4 inches and reduced visibility. Conditions may change quickly during heavier bands, so plan for slower travel on WIS 28 and county roads and give plows room to work.

Local government & public meetings

Sheboygan County Unit Meeting for town officials is set for Thursday, March 5 in Elkhart Lake. The Wisconsin Towns Association lists a Sheboygan County Unit Meeting focused on networking, legislative updates, and training/support for town governance. While not a Cascade board meeting, it’s directly relevant to Cascade-area residents through the town-government topics and regional coordination.

  • As I-43 work ramps up in early March, watch for shifting lane closures and short-term ramp closures tied to WIS 28 access.
  • Today’s snowfall could create brief periods of hazardous driving; monitor conditions if you’re traveling outside Cascade or heading toward I-43.
