Sheboygan, WI Gas & Diesel Watch: Diesel Jumps Above $5.63 as Regular Gas Holds Near $3.78
Sheboygan, WI — Friday, September 4, 2026
Regular gas is giving Sheboygan-area drivers some relief compared with last week and last month, while diesel is moving sharply higher. AAA’s September 4 Sheboygan metro average is $3.7810 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.6378 for diesel.
What changed at the pump
Regular gas is down from $3.7981 a week ago and $3.9484 a month ago. That is a decrease of about 2 cents over the week and nearly 17 cents over the month. Regular gas remains much higher than the $2.9859 average from a year ago.
Compared with Sheboygan Life’s August 31 fuel-price check, the current regular-gas metro average is roughly 3 cents higher. That comparison reflects movement since the last check, not a quote from a specific station.
Diesel is the sharper pressure point. AAA lists diesel at $5.6378 per gallon, up from $5.2907 a week ago, $5.1876 a month ago and $3.4590 a year ago. The current diesel average is about 35 cents higher than last week, 45 cents higher than last month and roughly 34 cents higher than the previous Sheboygan Life check.
Diesel is the bigger pressure point
The split matters because gasoline and diesel affect different parts of the local economy. Commuters, school-run drivers and weekend travelers may see modest relief if regular prices continue easing. Contractors, delivery drivers, farmers, service businesses and companies moving supplies are facing a much heavier diesel bill.
Restaurants and event operators can feel diesel costs indirectly through deliveries, equipment, transportation and setup work. Visitors driving into Sheboygan County for Labor Day weekend should also remember that a metro average will not match every pump in Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth or nearby communities.
What local drivers should watch
AAA’s Wisconsin averages on September 4 were $3.8158 for regular gas and $5.6503 for diesel. The national AAA regular-gas average was $4.1474. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly figures, dated August 31, put national regular gasoline at $4.071 and on-highway diesel at $5.599. Those figures provide broader context, not a replacement for the current Sheboygan metro averages.
WHBL reported an earlier GasBuddy-based local regular-gas figure of about $3.68 on September 3 ahead of Labor Day travel. AAA’s newer September 4 metro average is the better current comparison for this update. Prices can vary from one station to another, so comparing pumps before filling up may still help households, businesses and weekend travelers manage costs.
