Sheboygan County Gas & Diesel Watch for May 17: Regular Gas Eases, Diesel Holds Near $6
Sheboygan, WI — May 17, 2026
AAA’s latest Sheboygan metro fuel-price check puts regular gas at $4.580 a gallon and diesel at $5.924. Both are a little lower than yesterday — regular down 2.1 cents and diesel down 2.3 cents — but the bigger picture is still a steep run-up over the past week, month, and year.
Since the last local check on May 11, regular gas is up 19.2 cents from a week ago, 88.1 cents from a month ago, and $1.586 from a year ago. Diesel is up 21.5 cents from a week ago, $1.005 from a month ago, and $2.663 from a year ago.
What changed at the pump
Regular gas eased a bit, but Sheboygan is still running above the Wisconsin average of $4.539 and the U.S. average of $4.513. For commuters, that means the fill-up is still more expensive than it was just a few days ago, even if the latest move is smaller.
Diesel is close to $6
Diesel remains the tighter squeeze for contractors, delivery drivers, farmers, restaurants, and other small businesses that rely on work trucks and vans. At $5.924, it is still hovering near the $6 mark and above both the Wisconsin average of $5.809 and the national average of $5.646.
What local drivers should watch
For school runs, errands, and weekend travel, the latest dip may take a little edge off, but it does not reset household fuel budgets. If you are planning longer drives, it is still worth comparing pump boards before you fill up, especially with diesel costs staying elevated.
