Waldo Discontinues Outdoor Warning Siren; Residents Urged to Use County Alerts

Residents of the Village of Waldo in Sheboygan County should no longer rely on the village’s outdoor warning siren for severe-weather or emergency warnings. A village notice posted September 22 says the Village Board voted to discontinue the siren and directs residents to use other warning methods.
Why the siren was discontinued
The village notice says the siren must be activated manually at its site and cannot currently be activated remotely by Sheboygan County dispatch. The notice also says the system is aging and would require an upgrade or replacement, with potential costs. The siren is discontinued; residents should not count on it for warnings.
Warning options for Waldo residents
The village recommends Sheboygan County RAVE/Smart911 emergency notifications. To sign up by text, send sheboyganalert to 67283. Residents can also register through Smart911.
Other options named in the notice include NOAA Weather Radio, enabled Wireless Emergency Alerts on a cell phone, and trusted weather apps or local television and radio. Since warnings can happen overnight, the village recommends having more than one reliable way to receive them.
For Waldo households, the practical change is straightforward: do not rely on the outdoor siren. Consider setting up county notifications and making sure other warning options are ready.
