The GameBoard Named 2026 Retailer of the Year by Sheboygan County Chamber
SHEBOYGAN, WI 3-30-2026 — The GameBoard, a staple in downtown Sheboygan and a destination for tabletop gaming enthusiasts, has been named the 2026 Retailer of the Year by the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce. The recognition was announced during the Chamber’s annual Champions Gala, which honors businesses and individuals making a meaningful impact across the local business community.
The award highlights retailers that demonstrate exceptional customer service, strong community involvement, and a commitment to strengthening the regional economy. The GameBoard has built its reputation by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where people of all ages can gather, learn, and connect through games.
“It’s still a little surreal,” said owner Lynn Potyen. “We were surrounded by so many incredible nominees, and to be recognized in this way is truly humbling. This award belongs to our amazing team and to the three generations of customers who have trusted us with their favorite ways to play. We are grateful for every family, friend group, and community organization that has made The GameBoard part of their lives.”
Founded in 2006, The GameBoard has become more than just a retail store. It has grown into a community hub that promotes the social, educational, and therapeutic benefits of tabletop gaming. Potyen has long advocated for the role games can play in strengthening relationships, improving communication skills, and supporting cognitive development.
Through in-store events, partnerships with local organizations, and educational outreach efforts, The GameBoard continues to demonstrate how games can bring people together in meaningful ways. The store’s impact extends beyond retail, reinforcing its place as a valued part of the Sheboygan community.
The Retailer of the Year honor recognizes businesses that not only succeed commercially but also contribute to the vitality and culture of the region. For The GameBoard, that mission remains centered on creating a space where people feel welcome, curious, and inspired to play.

About The GameBoard
The GameBoard was founded in 2006 by Lynn Potyen after her son was diagnosed with a severe speech delay. Through his journey, she discovered how games could support communication and development. Today, research continues to support the idea that playing games together enhances creativity, socialization, emotional intelligence, and cognitive learning. Potyen remains an advocate for using board games in education, therapy, and team building. Her story has been archived in the Library of Congress and featured in the 2023 book “What Board Games Mean to Me,” an anthology of voices from around the world.
