The GameBoard Celebrates 20 Years in Sheboygan Oct. 10
SHEBOYGAN, WI — The GameBoard will celebrate 20 years in business with an anniversary party from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at 621 N. 8th St. in downtown Sheboygan.
Owner Lynn Potyen opened the game store in 2006. The anniversary gathering will give customers and community members a chance to revisit the store’s history while taking part in raffles, giveaways and a new hands-on activity.
Anniversary activities and giveaways
Visitors can enter raffles, receive a giveaway with each purchase and browse a photo album documenting two decades of The GameBoard. Special anniversary cookies from AspenOak will also be available.
“We’ve been serving game lovers in Sheboygan for 20 years, and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Potyen said.
Make a potion during Brewing Up Magic
The celebration will introduce Brewing Up Magic, a potion-making activity offered for an additional fee. Participants will make a small bottle filled with swirling color and glitter to take home.
Games as tools for connection
Potyen built The GameBoard around the idea that games can do more than entertain. She began exploring strategy games after her son was diagnosed with a severe speech delay, connecting the games played at home with his therapy. The store has since promoted games as tools for communication, social connection, learning and cognitive engagement.
Wisconsin Public Radio profiled Potyen’s work in 2025, including The GameBoard’s outreach to families, neurodivergent people and adults with memory loss.
