Boxing ring/club set for Sheboygan
This month, Michael Thomas will open Midwest Boxing Champions in Sheboygan. As a Milwaukee native who now lives in Sheboygan and graduated from South High in 2001, Thomas has both boxed in amateur fights and coached the sport. He’s also the president of the Black American Community Outreach and purchased a boxing ring for Sheboygan’s Juneteenth celebration. Thomas expressed his excitement for bringing boxing to Sheboygan and said, “We’re going to get some respect when we tell people we’re from Sheboygan and we box.”
Thomas had to go to Iowa to find the perfect boxing ring, as he couldn’t find one locally. He rented a U-haul truck and drove it back to Wisconsin. The Juneteenth celebration was a huge success, and Thomas knew he had to start a boxing club. After searching for a suitable location, Thomas found the perfect landlord who has embraced Midwest Boxing Champions and even mentioned that he might want to sign his son up.
The club will cater to both youth and adults who want to work out through boxing. Thomas aims to make Midwest Boxing Champions a sanctioned club that competes nationally against other amateur USA boxing organizations. He plans to host events, showcases, and classes for beginners, and will work towards building up amateur fighters for both in and out of state competitions. For those who wish to go professional, Thomas will help them achieve their goal.
In addition to boxing, Thomas is also opening B.A.D University, which stands for Beauty, Art, Dance. He is still finalizing details and updates can be found on his Facebook page or on sheboyganlife.com. Thomas is also seeking employees, instructors, and volunteers.
