Sheboygan Project Receives $3.3 Million Lead-Line Allocation
Sheboygan, Wisconsin — October 30, 2026
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has allocated $3.3 million to a City of Sheboygan project for private-side lead service-line replacement costs. The DNR funding list, published Oct. 22, identifies it as project 4901-21 and marks it as a census-tract project.
The allocation is a new step for the city’s lead-line work, but it does not mean residents can apply now or establish who qualifies. Households should check with Sheboygan Water Utility for current program availability and eligibility.
One city project received an allocation
The DNR list shows $3.3 million in principal forgiveness for private-side costs for project 4901-21, with $3.3 million total funding allocated. The city’s other two listed projects, 4901-19 and 4901-20, each show $0 in total funding allocated.
A July 6 City Council agenda identifies all three projects as planned applications for replacing lead service lines on private property. The funding outcome applies to a specific city project; it should not be read as assistance for every Sheboygan household or every lead-line replacement.
Check with the utility before making plans
The Sheboygan Water Utility program page, dated Jan. 30, said its 2026 voluntary assistance was committed and invited customers to sign up for notifications about possible 2027 funding. That page does not confirm whether household assistance is now available following the DNR decision.
Residents interested in lead service-line work should contact the utility or check its program information for updated application details. The DNR allocation is a project-level funding decision, not a customer application deadline or confirmation of individual eligibility.
