EMD Opens 38,000-Square-Foot Research Facility in Sheboygan Falls
EMD Electronics opened a 38,000-square-foot research and development facility at its Sheboygan Falls site on October 2. The new facility adds eight laboratories for developing materials used in semiconductor manufacturing.
The laboratories support work ranging from materials discovery and development to testing, purification and packaging. EMD says the facility brings research, scale-up and technology-transfer capabilities together at its Sheboygan Falls site.
Project jobs and tax credits are tied to performance
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) says the broader project is expected to create 44 jobs. That is a projection, not confirmation that those positions have already been filled or are currently open.
WEDC says EMD is eligible for up to $4.5 million in performance-based tax credits. The amount depends on the company’s capital investment and the number of jobs created, so it is not a guaranteed payment.
EMD describes the facility as part of a multiyear, $200 million investment in semiconductor capabilities across three states. The company says a further expansion at its Sheboygan Falls site is planned for completion in 2027. The $200 million figure applies to the broader effort, not solely to the new building.
For Sheboygan Falls, the opening adds research capacity focused on semiconductor materials. The stated job total remains an expected outcome of the broader project; the company’s announcement does not specify current openings or hiring dates.
