Sheboygan, Weekly News Brief (Sheboygan County Focus)
Local government
The City of Sheboygan is continuing work on its updated Comprehensive Plan (a long-range, roughly 20-year guide). Two public open houses are scheduled for Thursday, March 19 at Uptown Social (1817 N 8th St) with sessions planned midday and early evening, giving residents two chances to review the draft direction and share input.
Also this week, the City Plan Commission met (Feb. 24) with multiple public hearings and votes tied to conditional use permits (including items connected to Urban Middle School and Farnsworth Middle School), plus architectural reviews, including work connected to Vollrath.
Schools
Sheboygan Area School District is seeking community feedback tied to the sale and redevelopment of district-owned land associated with the former Washington Elementary School site (south of Bell Ave and east of N 13th St). The district notes final decisions on competitive bids will be made by the SASD Board of Education, with a public-input opportunity tied to a March 10 board meeting.
Looking ahead, SASD’s Board of Education publishes upcoming meeting info and agendas through its board page, including regular and committee meeting listings.
Roads, DPW, and major construction
The City of Sheboygan DPW posted a late-February update for the Residential Recycling Center (2026 New Jersey Ave). The site included a temporary closure notice and a week schedule covering Feb. 23–28.
Drivers should also plan ahead for the I-43 Resurfacing project in Sheboygan County: the project overview lists work beginning March 2 with early activity such as tree clearing and right-of-way fencing, followed by longer-term lane closures later in the spring and summer and additional ramp impacts as the season progresses.
Public safety
Sheboygan Police Department announced a change to police front desk hours, with new hours set to take effect Monday, March 2. The department also continues accepting applications for its 2026 Citizen Academy, with a published deadline of February 28 (as long as openings remain) and classes running Tuesday evenings from mid-March through late May.
