Fast-Track Facelift: Indiana Avenue’s Anticipated Reconstruction Springs a Surprise Early Start!

In a surprising turn of events, Indiana Avenue, one of Sheboygan’s busiest thoroughfares, is all set to undergo an early transformation. The extensive reconstruction project, initially slated for 2024, has been preponed to 2023, paving the way for a sooner-than-expected revamp of this bustling stretch.

Sheboygan’s Common Council made the timely decision in April to shift the schedule, aiming to align it with the upcoming Taylor Drive project. This strategic shift in plans is poised to streamline the overall renovation process across the city. Consequently, Indiana Avenue’s vibrant western gateway to Sheboygan’s near south side will be temporarily closed between South 17th and 24th Streets starting Monday, June 12th.

The reconstruction phase brings with it a slight detour in traffic patterns. South 19th through 24th Streets, between Indiana and Georgia Avenues, will morph into temporary two-way streets to facilitate smoother traffic flow. Once the transformation of Indiana Avenue is complete, these roads will revert to their original one-way configuration.

Businesses operating along this stretch need not fret, as the city council has ensured that access to all commercial establishments will be maintained throughout the project timeline. Echoing last year’s extensive works just west of the current section, the plan will involve the installation of new utilities, sidewalks, and street lighting, all topped off with a fresh concrete road surface.

However, this latest project promises to be a quicker affair than its predecessor. Unlike last year’s renovation, which lasted from mid-March to November, the current project is on track for completion by October this year, weather conditions permitting. As Sheboygan gears up for this early facelift, residents can look forward to a smoother and more aesthetic ride through the heart of their city.
