Alliant Energy has announced plans to build the Edgewater Battery Project, a large-scale energy storage system in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The project will store enough energy to power over 100,000 homes and is expected to start construction in 2024 and be completed by June 2025, pending approval. The project will be built on 7 acres of Alliant-owned land and the remaining 265-acre campus occupied by the power plant is being evaluated for future use, including repurposing infrastructure, new housing, public open spaces, and lakefront development.
