Sheboygan Open Door Center Expected to Close Nov. 30; Budget Review Set for Oct. 27
Sheboygan, Wis. — Oct. 9, 2026
Vista Care expects the Open Door drop-in center at 817 N. 8th St. in Sheboygan to stop operating Nov. 30, 2026, according to CBS 58. The center offers peer support and a daytime place for connection for people experiencing mental illness, homelessness and other challenges.
Open Door has operated for more than 20 years. CBS 58 reported that it serves an average of 26 people a day. Vista Care’s expected end date is tied to a proposed Sheboygan County 2027 Health and Human Services budget that removes county funding for the program. The proposal is not a final budget decision.
Transition details remain limited
Vista Care and the county say they are working to connect people who use Open Door with other resources. The reports do not identify a confirmed replacement location or a complete transition plan. TMJ4 also reported the expected closure and the county’s effort to connect users with services before the center’s anticipated end date.
The Sheboygan County meeting calendar lists a County Board Budget Review for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. The review is a next step in the county budget process; it does not mean the proposed funding change has been finalized.
For people who rely on Open Door, the reported expected end date is Nov. 30. The county and Vista Care have said they are working on resource connections, but specific replacement arrangements have not been publicly identified in the selected reporting.
