Music With a Message: Local Resident Sends “Get Together” to Every TouchTunes Jukebox in Sheboygan
Sometimes a small gesture can carry a big message.
One Sheboygan resident used the TouchTunes app this week to remotely queue “Get Together” by The Youngbloods on every available TouchTunes jukebox in Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls, turning bars and restaurants across the area into an unexpected reminder of unity.
The song’s best-known refrain has resonated with generations:
“Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try and love one another right now.”
Released in 1967 and becoming a major hit in 1969, Get Together became one of the defining songs of the peace movement. Nearly six decades later, its message feels just as relevant. The song was written by Chet Powers (Dino Valenti) and made famous by The Youngbloods, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
According to the local music ambassador behind the effort, the TouchTunes locations are just the beginning.
“I just used my TouchTunes app to send Get Together to every TouchTunes jukebox in Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls. AMI jukeboxes are next.”
Whether patrons noticed it as background music or stopped to sing along, the hope is simple: encourage a few smiles, a little conversation, and maybe a reminder that people have more in common than they sometimes realize.
