Discovery Bird Walk – Kohler-Andrae State Park

Catch peak fall migration on a guided Discovery Bird Walk with volunteer naturalists along Kohler-Andrae’s dunes and woodlands. Expect an easy pace with frequent stops to spot and ID songbirds, raptors riding the lakeshore thermals, and waterfowl moving south along Lake Michigan.
What to expect
- Beginner-friendly guidance on field marks, behavior, and bird calls
- A relaxed two-hour route through dunes, pine stands, and shoreline
- Tips on using binoculars and phone apps (Merlin/eBird) for quick IDs
What to bring
- Layers (lakeshore mornings can be cool), sturdy shoes, water
- Binoculars (loaner pairs are often available, first-come)
- A small notebook or your favorite birding app for your life list
