Sunday Breakfast Surprise: My First Visit to Harry’s Diner with Christine
After four years back in Sheboygan and a decade spent here in my youth, I finally made my way into Harry’s Diner, a local spot I’d somehow missed until now. I’d driven by countless times, admiring the polished chrome and retro look of its 50s-themed facade, but it took a full parking lot at our usual breakfast spot to finally push Christine and me through Harry’s doors.
A Step Back in Time
Walking into Harry’s Diner felt like stepping into a time capsule. The whole place is decked out in true 1950s Americana style, with chrome accents and 50s music filling the air. The waitstaff is dressed in poodle skirts, adding an extra layer of charm to the nostalgic atmosphere. It’s a theme they’ve embraced wholeheartedly, creating a unique experience that’s worth the drive, even if it’s a bit outside the center of town.
Our Breakfast Choices
For breakfast, I decided to keep it simple with two eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns, and raisin toast—something classic for a classic setting. Christine opted for the Farmer’s Skillet, a huge plate loaded with scrambled eggs, potatoes, green peppers, onions, ham, sausage, and bacon, paired with white toast. It was as hearty as it sounds and looked like it could satisfy even the hungriest diner.
Our waitress, with a big smile to match her poodle skirt, was attentive and friendly, making sure our coffees were topped up before we even thought to ask. It’s those little touches—friendly service and attention to detail—that make a place memorable.
Why Harry’s Diner Won Us Over
It wasn’t just the food or the decor that impressed us; it was the whole vibe. Looking around, everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there, smiling and chatting with their families or friends. It’s the kind of place that brings people together over generous portions and familiar favorites.
With breakfast served all day, Harry’s offers a variety of classic American dishes, from fluffy omelets to burgers and sandwiches. A few other house specialties caught my eye too, like the Hobo’s Dream with Gravy and the Belgium Waffle, which we might have to try on our next visit.
