Sheboygan Area Schools Special Education Program
The Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) and Lakeland University have signed a new partnership to address the shortage of special education teachers in Wisconsin. As part of the agreement, Lakeland students who complete the special education program, including student teaching, will be guaranteed a job in the SASD upon graduation. Jami Hintz, SASD assistant superintendent of human resources, said the partnership is particularly timely as the district’s special education needs continue to rise. The partnership also supports the SASD’s goal of recruiting and retaining exceptional staff by providing a seamless transition to full-time employment for special education student teachers. The agreement further demonstrates the strong relationship between SASD and Lakeland, which earlier this year signed an innovative agreement that expands access to free college-level coursework to SASD students and teachers.
